Hank's Free Roof NRLB Edition

It all started when our winner Hank Kueltzo saw the announcement of our No Roof Left Behind program in the church bulletin. He then nominated himself with the help of his roomate to see if he had the chance to win the free roof. Hank was then selected by Earl and Lynne Johnston to be one of the four finalists in the program. He was so grateful and excited at that point in time when the finalist sign was being put out in his yard, even we felt the gratitude. He then started to spread the word by telling everyone at the school he works at and the church he goes to. His church Our Savior Lutheran rallied behind him and solicited votes on his behalf. He also told every student, teacher or employee he worked with. He knew he needed as many votes as he could get in order to become the winner.

His story not only touched us but others who read it on our No Roof Left Behind home page. He’s a 79 year old hard working man who makes enough to make it by and pay bills. He’s attempted to fix the leaks in his home but unfortunately, the last time he tried he took a bad fall. So when he saw the announcement he knew that was his opportunity to get it fixed. He had everyone behind him the whole way through it!

When the voting finally closed, he ended up with 2,322 votes. This is way more than we expected from all four finalists put together. This was our first time doing the program and it was definitely a success. We had a total of ten sponsors who donated their time and materials in order to help Hank.

On the day of the installation, nerves were kicking in just thinking of what the outcome would be. It turned out to be an absolute fantastic day. The Installation Celebration started at 8:30 am. We got there with donuts and coffee for everyone there already. Family and friends started to arrive shortly after that. He got two hurricane impacted windows donated and installed that morning along with getting his landscaping done in the front yard. Watertite also donated the gutters for his home. Bank United donated lunch and drinks for everyone who attended the event and also ended up picking weeds and cleaning up his back yard.

Hank was so grateful for everything that was done that day, he didn’t have to tell us for us to realize it. It was a great turn out and he had a lot of family, friends and church members make an appearance. We can’t wait for the next one!
