Exploring Architectural Styles With Tile Roofing

Tile roofing is available in many different styles, making it easy to find an option that suits your home’s architectural design. In today’s post, we review the different types of tile roofing and discuss which architectural designs they best suit.

Clay

Homes built as early as the 18th Century featured clay tile roofs. This roofing style is also characteristic of Spanish Colonial and Mission-style homes that exist today. Clay tiles for these types of homes are usually barrel- or S-shaped. They have a life expectancy of about 50 years on average and hold their color throughout most of that time.

Concrete

19th-Century European roofers manufactured tiles from a mixture of cement, sand and water. Color was added later on to mimic the look of other tile materials too. At Earl W. Johnston Roofing, LLC, we offer concrete tiles as one of the more economical tile roofing options.

Ceramic

As the 20th Century approached, the use of ceramic roofing tiles gained popularity. The material is known for its resistance to mildew formation. Ceramic tiles were and continue to be used in Beaux-Arts style homes, as they are well suited to elaborate, symmetrical facades for mansions with huge columns and balconies.

Over the course of nearly 30 years of being a well-recognized roofing contractor, Earl W. Johnston Roofing, LLC has done a fair share of repairing and restoring residential tile roofing systems. We have the skills and experience to install high-quality tile roofing on your home, no matter the architectural style.
