How to Find a Roofing Contractor You Can Trust

A quick online search for roofing contractors serving your area will likely turn up dozens of results. How do you know which roofer to trust? In today’s post, the residential roofing contractors at Earl W. Johnston Roofing, LLC share tips on how to find a roofing contractor that will meet your needs.

Know Your Roofing Requirements

The first thing you need to do is make a list of the products and services that you need in a roofer. For example, if you want to install a metal roof, eliminate any contractors from your list that do not specialize in metal roofing. If you know you want to install a roofing system from a specific manufacturer, then limit your search to roofers who have been certified by that manufacturer.

Choose a Local Roofer

Local roofing contractors offer several advantages. One of the most important is that they are knowledgeable about local building codes and HOA rules or CC&Rs (covenants, conditions and restrictions), which reduces the risk of delays and added expenses from not complying with these regulations.

Ask for a Copy of Their Insurance Certificate

A legitimate roofer should be happy to provide a copy of their insurance certificate. While the details of coverage vary between insurance providers, any legitimate roofing company should at a minimum have general liability insurance and workers’ compensation. This protects you from liability in the event of accidental property damage or worksite injuries.

Ask for References and Call Them

Ask your roofer if they can provide references from previous clients. Set aside time to call these references. In addition to quality of work, ask questions about the roofer’s communication, punctuality and how they handled any delays.
