Why You Need a Solid Roofing Warranty

A solid roofing warranty is your protection from premature failure, and is the manufacturer and the contractor’s quality guarantee. Given that roofs are constantly exposed to external conditions, you need to have the assurance that your roof will protect you, your family, and your property. And in the event that the roof does fail, you can be confident that the problem will be corrected at little or no cost to you.

Residential roofing warranties typically cover two parts: material and workmanship. Material warranty covers problems that may arise from factory defects, typically rectified by the roofing material manufacturer, while workmanship warranty covers installation errors, covered by the roofing contractor.

These include coverage for up to 130 mph winds, the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane.

Here’s a look at GAF’s warranty levels:

1. Shingle and Accessory Limited Warranty: GAF’s standard warranty level covers up to 10 years of material warranty and cost of installation labor, plus at least three qualifying roofing accessories, including deck protection, leak barriers, and attic ventilation.
2. System Plus Limited Warranty: One step up is the System Plus Limited Warranty. It features increased material warranty for up to 50 years and free lifetime cost of installation labor, plus a two-year workmanship warranty. This warranty level covers the entire GAF roofing system, including all accessories.
3. Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty: This is GAF’s top-level warranty and can only be offered by GAF Master Elite Contractors. In addition to the System Plus Warranty, the workmanship coverage is increased from two to 25 years.
