Thermoplastic polyolefin or TPO is a roofing material known for its low cost, ease of installation, energy efficiency and overall versatility for both commercial and residential properties. Should you choose TPO roofing for your home or commercial property? Earl W. Johnston Roofing, LLC can help you decide!
WHAT IS TPO?
TPO combines the excellent ultraviolet (UV) resistance of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber roofing with the strong heat resistance of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), all at a lower price. It’s composed of multiple synthetic polymers and reinforcing fabric scrim, providing superior performance and overall strength and durability.
TPO BENEFITS AND ADVANTAGES
Considered one of the best roofing materials available today, TPO has the following traits that make it a cut above the competition:
Versatile: TPO is flexible and durable. It resists dirt and corrosion and prevents mold, mildew and algae growth. Due to its flexibility, it can be welded around uneven surfaces, like chimneys and pipes. Additionally, roof cleaning is much easier with TPO.
Easy to Install: Applying it is very simple, which makes for more affordable labor costs. Most commercial roofing systems must be sealed with heat, pressure and modified bitumen, but TPO is heat-sealed with just a heat welder. An experienced team of contractors can finish the installation very quickly.
Energy-Efficient: TPO is UV-resistant and reflects sunlight, making it very energy-efficient. This makes for a more comfortable building underneath as well as lower energy bills.
